Have you got a mobile phone? Or a digital camera? Maybe a webcam? We know you do. And you probably know that the world craves visual stories.
So, if you are a student at one of the Estonian universities, it’s time to grab your video recording device and put your visual literacy and skills to the test. “My First Scientific Achievement” Video Contest is your opportunity!
The rules are simple: keep your video under 3 minutes, upload it to YouTube, and be sure to know the artist and track name if you use music. The full contest rules are available in Estonian.
Below is an interview with one of the contest organizers Villu Päärt, filmed with a basic one-button recorder – the sound could be ways better, but hopefully you can still hear Villu’s tips for the contest:
Prizes
First prize: 1000 EUR, second prize: 500 EUR, third prize: 250 EUR, and audience award: 250 EUR.
Deadline
Videos have to be uploaded by 17 January 2011 at noon local time in Estonia. The winners will be announced 15 February.
Evaluation
Contest videos will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- how scientific the video is – if and to what extent scientific achievements are exposed
- how original it is
- how engaging it is
- performance or acting skill
- overall technical and artistic level
Tips
A good idea is key, but don’t underestimate the technical quality, performance skills, and camera movement. Don’t get into the realms of pseudoscience.
Eligibility
The contest is open to both local and international students enrolled at any of Estonia’s higher education institutions at the time of entry.
